Collaborations between various parties is one of the important things needed to support the education sector, especially since this sector has been heavily impacted by various disruptions such as the pandemic and technological developments. A new method is needed to support students’ learning process. The teachers have started this practice, for example by involving gadgets in and out of the classroom. This new method creates new habits so that students need additional insight, such as guidance to use gadgets properly; and digital literacy.

These small details if not treated properly can have negative impacts on student development. Thus, the student support system has a role to teach life skills and guidance for adapting to new habits. Responding the various needs of the education sector in the new normal, Muhammad Zabur, Principal of 264 Wawondula Elementary School in Sorowako, South Sulawesi, acknowledged that the participation of external parties is very important to provide students with an up to date understanding of habits in the new normal era, especially regarding the current situation and self-health aspects. "There are several student needs related to the pandemic and not all of which can be facilitated by the teachers, because the teachers don’t have all of the capabilities and latest industry knowledge as teachers. External parties and programs such as Trakindo Volunteers Mengajar really help us in keeping students having sufficient learning portions,” explained Zabur.

Schools face challenges in facilitating the growth and development of children's education properly in the era of new normal life. Research conducted by lecture of STKIP PGRI Sumenep (2020)1 has mapped out several new orientation in learning practices in Indonesia, such as: a trend of orientation towards empathy rather than power; the important role of the student environment besides the teachers; experting the material on relevant competencies; and learning methods suits the needs of each student. Seeing this phenomenon, there are learning principles that need to be applied, including: an educational process that is more student oriented, including physical and psychosocial health needs; adaptive, such as the need to modify targets and learning methods during emergency situations; and map out a formula to integrate face-to-face learning (PTM) and online learning (PJJ); as well as ensuring the involvement of various parties such as parents to make the teaching and learning process remain effective and on target.

In an effort to support these new learning principles, TVM is back this year with some material related to health in  the New Normal era. TVM has been an employee volunteer initiative program since 2013 related to Trakindo's social responsibility in the education sector which takes place at various Trakindo Assisted Schools. This program aims to advance character-based education by applying Pancasila values, placing students as the focus of activities, and fostering social volunteerism among employees. To date, more than 5,000 employees have actively participated in the Trakindo Volunteers Teaching program, achieving more than 37,000 teaching hours. In this year, the support provided is in the form of material according to the needs of each school, such as knowledge regarding daily life practice; information about health such as the importance of physical activity and as exercise; the danger of excessive use of devices; also health protocols in the new normal era. "This program is Trakindo’s Corporate Citizenship commitment and at the same time complements previous education program that strengthening every level of education, namely Gerakan Transformasi Edukasi (Generation) for elementaries & junior high schools; and the CO-OP Trakindo program for the vocational high school and higher education levels,” added Candy.

As to respond to the presence of the Trakindo Volunteers Mengajar program, Ramadhansyah, Principal of SDN 04 Ketapang, East Kotawaringin, Central Kalimantan said, “Trakindo Volunteers Mengajar revives interactions between teachers and students. Trakindo teaches us effective learning models, such as the importance of applying the challenge-based learning. In addition, this program also teaches the importance of appreciation after students are able to do the tasks given. Due to this appreciation, students' enthusiasm and liveliness in the classroom increases," shared Ramadhansyah for his experience. His school, SDN 04 Ketapang was the second winner for Trakindo Innovakids 2022.

Educating the nation's life and creating a new qualified generation is everyone's responsibility, not just teachers and its staff. “Trakindo constantly contributes to the nation's development by formulate various programs to support education sector, one of which is by involving employees as a concrete action of Trakindo's commitment which hopefully could to be directly felt by the Indonesian public so that they can enjoy the benefits of Trakindo's presence," Candy concluded.
