Enhancing Asset Reliability Through General Overhaul Execution

For more than two decades of operational partnership with one of our customers, PT SIMS Jaya, in Batu Kajang, East Kalimantan, Trakindo has remained committed to maintaining asset reliability through continuous condition monitoring. In our latest evaluation, several Off-Highway Truck (OHT) units with more than 60,000 operating hours showed significant performance degradation in critical structural components, including frame cracks, suspension cracks, and dump body cracks. These conditions required comprehensive intervention to ensure the continuity of productivity and operational efficiency.

In response, Trakindo recommended the implementation of a General Overhaul (GOH) as a strategic and comprehensive solution. Through detailed inspections, component reconditioning, and replacements in accordance with OEM standards, GOH is designed to restore unit performance to near-new condition and significantly extend asset life.

The GOH implementation delivered measurable results. The Physical Availability (PA) of the units, previously below 70 percent, increased to more than 90 percent after the overhaul, demonstrating the effectiveness of the program even under budget constraints. With proper ongoing maintenance, the units are projected to gain additional operational life of up to 50,000 hours. The customer also expressed appreciation for Trakindo’s ability to complete the work on schedule, maintain safety performance, and remain flexible in adjusting the scope to the available budget without compromising quality.

As equipment ages and workloads increase, performance decline becomes a challenge that must be managed effectively. In this context, a general overhaul is a strategic business decision that delivers long-term benefits, including improved reliability, cost efficiency, reduced downtime, and extended asset life. By ensuring units operate at optimal performance levels, customers gain a stronger and more sustainable operational foundation amid the dynamics of the mining industry.
